Denon’s DHT-S514 wireless soundbar

Buying a soundbar can be tricky business. There are plenty options out there that make the buying process trickier. Many models lack even the basic functionality you would require from a soundbar. Keeping this in mind, Denon launched their latest wireless soundbar and subwoofer combination speaker system.

With Qualcomm® aptX™ empowered Bluetooth wireless streaming, multiple digital and analog inputs, Dolby Digital, DTS decoding and Denon Virtual Surround, this soundbar is geared for an impressive home theater experience. Simply connect it to your television or projector and enjoy powerful audio from your movies, TV shows, games and music.

Closer look at the Denon DHT-S514

On the surface, the DHT-S514 is a soundbar with angular matt black design that looks smart and classy. The drivers are protected by a simple metal mesh and a row of illuminated control knobs that are placed on top-front-edge. These buttons give the option to select your chosen input, sound modes, and volume level.

At 1,004mm long, the Denon DHT-S514 is ideal for TVs that are 42” and above. The soundbar DHT-S514 ships with two pairs of plastic feet that can be used to elevate the soundbar an extra 20mm or 30mm off the ground. Furthermore, there's a bundled infra-red repeater that easily attaches to the rear of the sound bar. The infrared repeater is extremely handy if the soundbar hinders the TV's infrared sensor.

The DHT-S514 has multiple connection ports, which makes it easy to connect it to your TV and other entertainment devices. It sports an HDMI input, a coaxial digital input, an optical digital input, and a 3.5mm mini jack. It also has an HDMI output that supports Audio Return Channel (ARC) that allows the sound from your TV to be transmitted back to the soundbar via the same HDMI cable. Needless to say, your TV must be ARC compatible in order to use this functionality.

Interestingly, the subwoofer is wireless. So, all you need to do is plug it in and place it according to your preference. The subwoofer automatically pairs itself with the sound bar. At 313x172x346mm, the Denon DHT-S514 soundbar is nice and compact, making it easy to tuck away in a corner. At 49W, it pumps out an incredible amount of bass for movies, music and gaming.

The DHT-S514 soundbar’s Dolby Digital and DTX decoders do a fantastic job of creating an immersive atmosphere during music and movies playback. With a pair of 10W two-way speakers that incorporate 0.5in tweeters (x2) and 5in midrange (x2) drivers, the soundbar produces clear and crisp audio. There’s plenty of loudness to fill a big room.

The DHT-S514 can also stream audio via Bluetooth. It deploys high-quality Qualcomm® aptX™ codec for clear audio with minimum interference and quality degradation.

It has a simplistic remote control that replicates the controls on top of the Denon DHT-S514 soundbar. The remote control is handy for switching over to Night Mode - which cuts bass on the subwoofer letting you enjoy late-night movies without disturbing your neighbours.

Overall, the Denon DHT-S514 is a great all-round soundbar and its powerful subwoofer certainly makes it a better value proposition compared to all its competitors. If you are looking to buy a soundbar, be sure to check out Denon’s DHT-S514 wireless soundbar.
